My project is to create in Lyon a bookshop specialized in medieval and Asian literatures. The bookshop is called Shangri-la, which is a place present in the book of James Hilton, Lost Horizon. It is described as a calm area with beautiful landscapes and where the time is stopped.
This bookshop is unique for different reasons. It will be the first bookshop specialized in medieval and Asian literatures. Inside the bookshop, there will be a room where people can read books. It will be a placewhere they can rest, find peace, a timeless moment.
Events about medieval life and Asian culture will be organised once in a month (tea ceremonies, readings, writing ateliers, conferences on various subjects, participation on festivals). The bookshop will also have a partnership with Lyon’s libraries and Asian restaurants.
With this project, I would like to interest people who loves to read, people who are curious and wants to discover new things, people who likes history, people who are interested in the medieval period and Asian literature and culture. This bookshop will be a place where people are more than customers; it will be a lively and friendly place.
I have noticed several key players and I decided to take three of them as examples. Bookshop Mollat is specialized in medieval literature. Bookshop Molière and bookshop Ombres Blanches are generalist bookshops, they are not specialized in a specific domain.
There will be different ways to communicate about the bookshop and make it know by people. A Facebook and Instagram pages will be created for the bookshop along with a website. People will be able to find the website by the link present on the two networks. Thanks to a link on the website, customers will be able to order book. There will be also a link to contact the bookshop for example to organize animations, propose partnership, send candidatures.
For make people know about the bookshop, there will be publications on Facebook and Instagram to present the bookshop. Then, it will be used to inform people of events organized not only by the bookshop, presentation of books every week, etc. On Instagram, there will contests organized several times in the year: people will be able to win a book, a reduction, or free tickets for an event.
As I said before, a website will be created for the bookshop. People will be able to see the books presents on the bookshops and examples or books or things that they can buy.
An article will be published on the city website and on the city hall magazines about the bookshop and its opening day.
An opening day will be organized for the creation of the bookshop. Invitations will be sent to journalists and publishers and people would be able also to come. On this day, animations like readings will be organized. People will receive a tote bag with the logo of the bookshop containing pen, papers, and a brochure of the bookshop. People can attend readings and other events on the two next days.
